Josiane Niyonkuru is a passionate conservationist with a strong foundation in biology, chemistry as main course studied in Advanced secondary school. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Ecotourism and Green Space Management at the University of Rwanda, she is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and biodiversity conservation, with a special focus on protecting bird species and their habitats.
Her academic training has deepened her understanding of environmental education, ecological stewardship, and sustainable resource management key pillars in avian conservation. Recognizing birds as vital indicators of ecosystem health, Josiane is eager to contribute to research, advocacy, and community-based initiatives that safeguard their future.
As a former Teaching Assistant with the IEE Rwanda Project, Josiane spent six months refining her skills in education and community engagement. This experience equipped her with the ability to communicate complex environmental concepts in accessible ways as valuable asset for raising awareness about bird conservation and inspiring local action.
To further her expertise, Josiane earned an online Diploma in Environmental Safety and Health Management, complementing her formal education with practical knowledge in risk assessment and sustainable practices. She has also completed an online certification in Basic Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), strengthening her ability to evaluate and mitigate threats to natural habitats, including critical for birds.
Josiane’s background combined with her enthusiasm for wildlife conservation, drives to bridge scientific research, policy, and education. Josiane aspires to collaborate with other youth to advance bird habitat protection, support citizen science initiatives, and foster community-led stewardship of ecosystems.
With her blend of academic knowledge, teaching experience, and certified environmental training, Josiane is poised to contribute meaningfully to efforts that preserve birds and their habitats for future generations.
